MetaTrader was first released in 2002 by MetaQuotes Software. It went through several versions before MT4 was released. A number of online brokers added MT4 to their trading platforms in the late forex market metatrader 4 2000s due to its popularity. MT5 launched in 2009. Brokers also adopted it because of its popularity. Almost all major brokerages will offer both MT4 & MT5.
