Maintain a legacy; skiing with a tree Note from hank stashevich: “it was a 57th annual race on the turkish relay, which was held near the ski linen of the birch -hills in farbens, alaska. The temperature was -14 ° f at the very beginning of the race and our ski were wonderful! Three layers of the polar tip of the swix to the tail with clogging between each, and after a little green swix in the area of the blow were simply perfect. "

"The end of 1970- the xs, the all-wood ski is likely to take a dodo path ..... Only this elusive thing called taste can partially check this trend. Filigree ski skis, including madshus birkebeiner, is a thing of beauty; its manual preparation hycoria seems to be an independent embodiment of tradition in sports life, whose roots go 4500 years earlier; it is a high-quality light tour of the skis that has fallen into other people's hands. Tour-slizhniks have already proved an unusually unusually independent lot, therefore it is almost impossible to predict the exact direction here. ” 1974. Henry regnery company. Chicago.

Hello, greg! My husband bought me a couple of skis with eggen on local ski let me, thank you for collecting this sincere informative website. I skied in the past. Xc, tele and alpine. This journey led me to wooden skis, and i love them! The information is strong. I just need some explanation regarding sliding to wax these things. Why do you use shock wax in glide zones? Why not use hard wax and apply it, as on the basis of p tex? Is this a tradition, or is there a practical reason? ...... Gerald
Gerald,
Thanks for the comments.
The position of a traditional sliding wax on wooden skis requires an iron to heat wax in order to melt it. Doing this on wooden skis will release pine tar and mix it with a sliding wax, causing poor sliding. Some people tried to conduct a pencil of horned wax, but it is not long enough. There is both a practical and traditional reason for using this as a sliding wax.
Some people went to the point of eliminating pine resin and varnishing the bottom of the skis. Then they use traditional sliding wax melted with iron. The only problem with this is that it is more difficult to adjust your wax in the shock area for length. When you use cold wax wax for glide, you can still configure the kick wax area without any problems. +> 11/19/12 - hello, i was a teacher of ski skis on the weekend in the pyrenees, in spain, 35 years old. Wooden skis. Manufacturers of skis and brands on your site.I send you several photos of skis and poles, bindings, tips, which gluing and details of the layers of wood (seven widths, four). As you wish? I would be grateful to you if you do it. Victorino, these skis are sigmund ruud skis. Often, ski manufacturers created special brands for certain customers. The skis, in the visible, from the 1940s and are located down the slopes/skis over the telemark. Most likely, since the 1930s. 1931. Later, he opened his own company for the production of skis in oslo ....... Greg
12/24/12 - dear sirs
I i am looking for small wooden skis (about 450 mm), bindings are not required. I demand them for a ski bar with ski skiing to file pictures. We cut holes to hold the shots.
I look forward to your answer

21.12.12 - hello. My name is joe, and i came across your site when i am looking for a set of wooden skis. My bride and i hold a winter wedding in vermont in january. We love winter and winter sports, especially skiing. Instead of our guests to sign a guest book, we liked the idea of something more memorable - wooden skis that we are hanged in our house. So i am looking for a smaller pair that is in an “excellent” state and lighter/middle tree so that their signing can be seen. Do you have any recommendations from your collection with this description? It will look good with signatures. I will write you with details .... Greg
10.10.12 - hello,
We bought a couple of old wooden skis (about 7 feet) for use in it was interesting as a guest book for our wedding. You can answer a few questions for me regarding this:
-Do you know what type of handle/marker is best used for this? -Debt to the fact that we relate/seal the skis subsequently in order to save them? You can offer us ....... Doroti
Dorothy, see comments below about the marker of the paint of the sharpi. The paints marker will last a long time, although it will not hurt to use the polyurethane of the spray over the skis, when the signatures are completely dry ..... Greg
10/15/12 - good afternoon,
I recently looked for wooden skis and found your site. Your page attracted attention, because there was a story similar to my search - the couple wanted skis so that their guests were signed by their wedding reception. Your answer says:
My daughter is married in june 2013, and she and her bride would also want their guests to sign a couple of wooden skis at their reception. They are both avid skiers - her bride proposed at the top of the valluga mountain in austria. The image of vintage skis that you had engraved would be absolutely perfect! I would like to discuss this with you!
I look forward to your answer. With the best wishes ..... Terese
Terray, i can no longer engrave skis from the difficulty. The use of a marker of gold or silver paint for signing names works very well on skiing with darker colors, for example, couples you buy. You mentioned a friend of the artist, draw names and dates, not engraving. I think this is a great idea ....... Greg
07/23/12 - i read your instructions about the repeated chamber and, as it looked like the skis was up to the tree without a wax and a pine resin - i squeezed them together and laid a board under the parts of the bottle. Should i fill the upper part with another thin piece of board? I do not know if the board is enough, quite fat. How can i tell me? I have the feeling that i am missing something here, and therefore i attach two photos and i hope that you will inspect them and enlighten me ....... Meg in british colombia
Editor : meg your board should be thicker than the existing rival, so the wooden fibers on skiing stretched. You can also use a smaller piece of wood, such as a piece of wood 10 cm x 10 cm, about 3-4 cm thick. The wooden block should be placed directly under the binding area. Some people use a wax traffic jam on their side or a full pipe from a wax of a blow as a spacer ...... Greg
7/21/12 - i scored my wooden skis for the first time last autumn and they are still sticky! Is there anything that i can do to make the tar to dry? We just tried to heat the skis with a blow, but nothing special ...... Tara in the oregon
Editor: container, heat the ski bases again, where the pine resin is used and then wipe it with the fabric to make it so that so that remove additional pine inturateities. When the grounds are cool, use a synthetic wax cork to smooth the bases like glass ..... Greg
29.09.12 - i just returned from the north pole for the 10th day and soon go to the south pole again. I was asked to bring the team back to the north pole in april for a month, they would like to conduct an expedition with traditional skis. My question: is it possible to have 6 sets of wooden skis for the north pole made to fit modern links? I look forward to your answer. You; mark hansen from grand -mare, minnesota and paul patstra from canada. Mark is an instructor at the north house people's school in grand -marais, minnesota, usa (www.Northhouse.Org), and the floor makes individual skis. Mark hansen actually made about 10 pairs of wooden skis a few years ago for bbc for their documentary on the north pole expedition ..... Greg
04/24/12 - hi, i found a couple completely new, never used (without binding), wooden skis (hikory base from the edge of lignoston). I can't find information about the ski brand, can you help me? I would like to use for the 1st publication of the historical marcialonga 2013! (The day before the main race marcialonga). Brand: nordic sport, model: classic, color: orange, made in sweden in advance. Andrea ...... Italy
Editor: nordic sport was founded back in 1972 by börje österberg. A real entrepreneur who began his career as a businessman at the age of 11. He put on his skis and began to ski to neighbors in a small village in the north of sweden, selling weekly magazines, and since then he continued this course. He built a spear factory in arvidsjaur, then opened a sales office at skellefteå, and finally he went out to sell his products to the largest events that he could find in the world. Börje österberg managed to position the company and its products on the largest areas, and he built a fantastic network around the world of athletics, and history continues. To date, the company has proven itself in all markets ...... Greg
04/23/12 - hello, greg,
I bought old sigmund ruud ski from a used site. They are in very good condition. Flex is still very good. Everyone continues to tell me that this is shame in order to ski with them, and that they should stay on my wall, because they are for the old ones for this. I think that they are still in very good shape, and they only need a few layers of varnish from above and a little pine resin at the bottom. The previous owner completely cleared the base. To restore them so that i can ski with them. I go to norway about 3 times every winter, because i direct groups for a non -profit organization that promotes scandinavian skis in belgium (srhf). I love the northern heritage and would like to combine them with the 3-pin attachments of rottefella super telemark and crispi leather 75 mm boots. Now they have old 3-pin bindings, but i can not find any suitable shoes, because modern ducks do it to dense with varnish. This should be updated, because where the logos are on the tip, it begins to crack so that water can be in skiing. But i'm afraid that i will spoil the logo if i polished the varnish. Is there a way to save an untouched logo and put on a new layer of varnish? Or the only option to polish full skis (including the logo), and then put a new layer of varnish? Again, the same question is whether it will be shame or these skis is not enough exclusively to worry about it? By the way, you have an excellent site, and it’s nice to see how you keep the legacy of these skis ............ Koen in belgium
Editor: koen, skiing on these skis! Hundreds of people in the united states enjoy skiing skiing, including me. I also ski a couple of wooden skis using super telemark bindings and asolo snowfield boots.
For the repair of old skis, i recommend using 0000 steel wool and mineral drinks. Very slightly clean the skis with steel wool and mineral spirits to remove dirt and wax. Do not read the logos, but hug them. When you finish cleaning, you may have to grind the skis a little. Wipe cleanly. After the skis is dry, you can use the logos is used to be preserved. You may need 2-3 coats. After the logos are covered and protected, you can apply all the skis is used. Good skiing for you ...... Greg
5/5/12 - good afternoon, my name is david nicholas suarez from argentina, and i have long been in the family, a few skis are quite old . No information meeting, i met his website, and that is why the consultants, so that i can lead the history and origin of these skis. I sent a few photos, and i hope i can help.

01/14/12 - hello,
Question! My husband has a pair of jofa sport sports skis that they are painted black at the bottom. Is this a transitional ski? And is it possible to remove the paint and remake with pine resin? I would really appreciate your contribution to this! Thanks to carol
Carol, yes. In the 1950s, wooden skis were painted black or red at the bottom. Later, in the 50s, plastic called ebonite was installed on the sole of wooden skis. You must be able to remove the paint, and then a pine ski ...... Grega fangel
1/28/12 - hello,
I liked reading your website, which i in some way “accidentally” discovered when i watched the internet for some new skiing (fjell) when i cross the mountain plateau of hardangwidd in easter. It will take some skis with steel edges for this, although.
I just wanted to tea about http://www.Finn.No, which is the norwegian "ebay" , where most people sell and they buy their things these days. Http:///www.Finn.No/finn/torget/tilsalgs/ (torget = marketplace) is a random category where you will find skiing. A quick search for "treski" (wooden skis) gives several different advertisements with cheap money. To be used more and will probably be garbage. It is a pity, but such skis is not valued today, except for design details on the wall of the cabin.
Good day. Vennlig hilsen, øyvind ...... Norway (norzh)
1/28/12 - hello, wooden ski people, in montreal and skied daily. 205 -cm 1950s for many years with modern bindings. B. /+> I was just interested in whether you knew about what kind of wooden manufacturers of skis in ontario, canada? Or knew about what kind of stores that could produce wooden skis? Dave,
Yes, paul patstra from ontario makes beautiful wooden skis. You can find it at http: //www.Terpstrawoodworks.Com/............................ ....................@>+> _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
24.01 .12 dear sir,
I ski skiing all my life, and my pair of trisily whips about worn out. I would like to order 2 pairs ........ I look forward to your answer and hope to get skis - i really want to stay with wooden skis and i can’t find here!
